Back in business… just in time
Wednesday, March 28th, 2007
The good news is that the blog is back. The bad news is that I have no idea what went wrong. Anyway, we move on..
Baby No. 2 is imminent. The due date is April 7, but we’re already past the time that Julia came, so we’re on alert and obviously, we’re all (big sister included) very excited.
We have a name (if she’s indeed a girl) picked out, but of course, we’re not telling what it is. We have a middle name set too. We also want to be prepared just in case she’s a he. We have a boy’s name left over from the first time around (we didn’t know Julia was a girl until she was born), but we’re reconsidering that one. So, we’ll be digging through the baby names book over the next couple of days.
Obviously, there’s a lot of catching up to do.
There’s pictures of Julia’s second birthday here. She had a great day, which ended in a huge sugar rush from the chocolate Dora cake. So, even though her nap was extra short that morning, she had a tough time falling asleep.
Speaking of sleep, Julia moved into her new (much bigger) room before her birthday. She’s sleeping in an adult twin bed (with guard rails) and has lots of new decorations in what used to be the guest room.
This was part of a long process of renovations to the house:
- We had the carpet removed from the entire upstairs and stairway. This uncovered some very damaged stairs.
- We had the floors upstairs refinished.
- We had the stairway completely (except for the landing in the middle) replaced.
- We bought some new furniture for upstairs and a new couch (one with a pull-out bed since we no longer have a guest room) for downstairs.
- We fixed and repainted the baseboard in Julia’s new room and are still in the process of doing this elsewhere upstairs.
For the last few weeks, we (which means I in this case) have stopped rocking or holding her at bedtime. After we read books, she goes straight into bed and I try to convince her to lie still. It has been getting better and better. Last night she laid still right away and after a few tosses and turns, was asleep within 15 minutes or so. Doing this at nap time is a little more difficult.
Julia is also in the process of potty training. We’ve begun a reward system and she actually goes in the potty once or twice a day, but she’s still a long way from being diaper free.
At her two-year checkup, she measured 34 1/2″ tall. There’s a guideline that says that a person’s adult height will be twice their height when they turn two. So, that would put her at 5′-9″ as an adult, which is WNBA point guard territory. So, her big sister gift, which we’ll give her when the baby is born is this. Gotta get her started early.
Will be adding some photos, video and audio very soon. Here’s some audio of Julia counting to ten in Spanish (Feb. 21) to get you started.
