She sings. She dances.
Julia likes to sing “Old MacDonald” … a lot. And Old MacDonald’s farm is strictly for pigs. No cows, horses, sheep or chickens. She also sings her A,B,C’s and “All Aboard the Choo Choo Train.”
She can identify letters pretty well when you show them to her individually. The same with single-digit numbers. She knows her basic shapes (circle, square and triangle).
Colors are another story. This seems to be a difficult concept to grasp for her. When you ask her what color an object is, her response is usually “yellow,” no matter what it really is.
A few days ago, she saw Chewy lying under the dining room table, so it became a favorite spot of hers (not with Chewy - he’s in the basement if she’s out and about downstairs). She likes to take her baby dolls under there and asks that other people go under there with her.
We have finally transitioned Julia away from her bottle, to a sippy cup. That is part 1 of the road to becoming a big sister. We have introduced a potty and she sits on it for a few minutes before she takes her bath, but I’m not sure she understands the concept of it yet.
Around her second birthday, she will get a new bed. That will give her a few months away from her crib before the baby gets it. She’s already able to lower herself down from an adult bed pretty well.
The other big thing is to get her to go to sleep completely on her own. Right now, she needs to be held or rocked, although there have been a few nights where she does. Sometimes, she wakes back up after I put her down, tosses and turns for a while and the settles down to sleep.
She has been sleeping a little later than usual the last week or so, which is nice. She is consistently taking one nap per day, right after lunch, and it lasts an hour and a half or so. A couple of weeks ago, I put her to bed several days in a row in order to get her accustomed to me, rather than Melissa. For a while there, it was strictly Melissa putting her to bed and she wouldn’t tolerate me any time I tried. Now that she’s OK with either of us putting her down, we alternate. At some point, once Melissa is further along with baby No. 2, I will need to take over permanently.
Speaking of No. 2, Melissa has an appointment tomorrow.
I haven’t been taking enough pictures lately, but I have some from the last month to put up.
