The trip to Turks and Caicos was great. Julia did great the whole trip (with the small exception of the flight from T&C to Miami.
Other than having a hard time getting to sleep from Newark to Miami, she did fine on the two flights there. While she was awake, she sat pretty patiently.
On the trip, she had a good time with her cousins and the junior members of the Linkfield family. She was fairly shy with the adults at first, but she was very talkative with the three-month old baby, Otis when she first met him. She excitedly said “Hi baby” repeatedly as she checked him out.
While she was in our room with her mommy and daddy, she was very talkative. Check this video here (7 MB wmv). By the end of the week, she warmed up to most of the rest of the adults, allowing Granddad, Uncle Pete, Aunt Elena and even Aunt Lara to hold her without complaint.
She loves the water. We went in the ocean and the pool many times and her new favorite game is one where we dip her in the pool 10 times as we count aloud. It wasn’t long before she was requesting the game, both when she was in the pool and out of it. She requested it by counting, “One, two, fwee, fo …”
We would have had in the water a lot more than we did, but it was incredibly hot the entire week. So, we had her out for 15 minutes or so twice a day. The sun takes a lot out of you, so she slept well, as can be seen from the above picture.
Julia had a great time at the wedding reception. She danced with her mommy and daddy to both the band and the DJ. She was there later than most of the other kids, and whenever we asked her if she was ready to go to bed, she said “No, no.”
The first flight back was pretty bad. She was very tired and had a lot of distractions that kept her from being able to get to sleep. Before we got on the second plane, I rocked her to sleep and she slept the entire way from Miami to Newark.
In all, it was a great trip for Julia socially. Seeing her develop over the course of the week and seeing her interact with all of the kids and adults made it the best week of my life as a dad since the week she was born.
Photos of the trip are on the Julia page, from May 22-27.
Also there are the first pics from the new camera, starting with May 30. The pictures are great and I don’t have to do as much work in Photoshop before uploading them to the site.
Today, we took Julia downtown to a street fair, where she got to meet some animals at the petting zoo. She liked the baby cow, saying “Cow” and “Moooo” while she stood next to it. She didn’t really want to touch the animals though. Whenever I tried to pull her arms towards them, she turned her hands in so that she wouldn’t touch them. All but the cow went after her though, searching her for food, since most of the other people there bought a cup of food and had it with them. Eventually, she reached out and touched the cow.
We’re all caught up with pictures now, but my work will be sure to have us behind in another couple of weeks.
