The Day the Camera Died
Tuesday, May 30th, 2006
We loved our Canon PowerShot A75. It gave us some good years and some great pictures. It took the first ever photos of Julia.
On April 1, 2006, I dropped the A75 on the concrete floor of the Boston Aquarium. It landed on the lens, suffering a fatal injury and leaving us without a camera.
The final phots from the A75 can be found here.
I procrastinated and finally replaced it with … two more Canons.
The first is the Canon PowerShot A430. This is a fairly inexpensive, easy-to-use camera that fits in your pocket and takes some decent pictures. It also takes video.
The other camera is the Canon EOS 350D /Digital Rebel XT, a higher-quality camera that will give us some really nice images. It doesn’t do video.
The A430 arrived just before we left for Turks and Caicos for Pete’s wedding. Some pictures from the A430 can be seen here and here.
Photos from the trip are coming soon. It was an incredible trip and Julia had a great time. More on that in the next update.
The Digital Rebel arrived today and we’ve taken a few pictures with it already. They will be up soon.
Believe it or not, Julia can count to 10. Her pronunciation isn’t great, expecially with six and seven, but she definitely knows her numbers. We like to count toes and fingers.
More teeth are coming in. You can see the bud of a ninth tooth here to the bottom right of the other four teeth on the bottom.
Since we got back from the trip, it seems like molars are starting to come in. Her gums are swollen and she has been a bit irritable. She also seems to have lost her appetite a bit.
She has called herself by her name a couple of times (instead of just using “me”). She pronounces it “Jul-ya” or sometimes “Ju-Ju”. In the last few days, she has also been calling Melissa “Mommy” sometimes instead of just “Mama”. She still uses “Mama” most of the time, including several sad and desperate cries when she’s tired or when she just wakes up.
Julia loves to dance. We have a great video of her dancing that I will post soon. You can see some pics of her getting jiggy with it in the May 20 photos. There’s also some shots there of her playing with a basketball. She’s pretty strong. I need to get her a little hoop now.
I’m sure I’m forgetting some stuff, but it’s late. More coming up very soon.
