We took a trip to New Hope, PA today (about an hour drive). It’s a very pretty, yet very crowded town; historic with tons of little shops. Julia did pretty well for the first half of the day, but after a train whistle woke her from a nap, she got cranky, and never got truly settled until we were back in the car headed home. In this photo, you can see how she scratched up the left side of her face during one episode.

We took quite a few pictures of the town, including a couple of Lambertville, NJ, which is right across the Delaware River.

I have also updated the Julia section with some pictures of her from today, as well as some more from this past week. Included here is a video from yesterday of her trying some cereal for the first time. She didn’t eat much, but it was her first venture into (somewhat) solid foods. I put the video into Flash, so that it can start loading while you’re looking at the other pictures on the page. It prompts you to start the video once it is halfway loaded. Now that I’ve set that up, I will go back and put some more videos of her up. So stay tuned for that.

Julia’s sleep-training is underway. I’ll give an update soon.

Julia saw the doctor today for her 4 month checkup. She weighed in at 13 lbs., 8 oz. (50th percentile) and measured 24 1/2″ long (50th percentile as well). She received some shots, and the doctor was very impressed with how loud and how irritatingly she can scream.

The weather here has been pretty miserable for May. This is Memorial Day weekend coming up, and it feels much more like Thanksgiving. Overall, it has not been much of a spring.

I snuck out late (well, I didn’t really sneak out - just left after Julia went to bed) to see Star Wars last Saturday. I liked it, but it didn’t exactly blow me away. There were a couple of weaknesses in the plot that bothered me a bit. I’ll probably get the DVD at some point, but I have no need to see it again in the theatre. The Emporer is one of my favorite movie characters of all time, probably second only to Carmen Ronzonni.

Chewy got his spring haircut on Saturday. He’s like a whole new dog. I’ll post a pic soon.

We need to somehow get Julia to start falling asleep on her own. At this point, she needs to be rocked to sleep in someone’s arms, and it’s difficult to even put her down without waking her up. Oh yeah, she can’t sleep flat in the crib for more than 15 minutes or so either. She needs to sleep in the little cradle that we have. So we have a lot of difficult training to go through before we can just put her down and let her go to sleep by herself. It all starts now. Let us know if you have any advice.

Added a ton of pics from the last month to the Julia section.

It’s really amazing how she has developed over the last few weeks or so. She babbles a lot (I’ll try to get a video of this up soon), she’s pretty good at reaching out and grabbing something that you hold in front of her, and she’s much more alert and aware of what’s going on around her. The best thing may be that she sleeps for 6-7 hours at a time at night now.

Spent most of the day in Burlington with Melissa’s family. Julia had a bit of a rough time in the car (both directions), but she did a great job of charming everyone there. We got a lot of great shots, which I will put up soon (along with more from the last month). Here’s a preview of one of my favorites:

This, my friends, is a blog. Yes. schubee.com has gone the way of a blog. Why? Well, I thought it would be cool have some sort of documentation of the our life to show our daughter sometime down the line.

So I will do my best to keep this up, and I will try to get Melissa to participate as well. And maybe, Julia will get to contribute in a few years. To start us off, here’s my favorite photo:
